Steve Jobs themed commemorative $1 US coin Announced

The Steve Jobs-themed commemorative $1 US coin has officially been announced by the United States Mint (US Mint). Launching in 2026, the coin is part of the ongoing “American Innovation $1 Coin” program, which honors innovators and breakthroughs from across the United States.

What to expect

Though the coin carries a face value of one dollar, its release is anticipated as a collector’s piece rather than for broad circulation.  The official press release confirms the design release date of October 15, 2025, with availability slated for sometime in 2026.

A tribute to innovation

The design earmarked for this special issue features Steve Jobs seated cross-legged before a backdrop of northern California’s oak-covered rolling hills—a subtle nod to the landscape that inspired much of his creative vision.

The reverse of the coin will bear inscriptions including “STEVE JOBS,” “CALIFORNIA,” and the uplifting phrase “MAKE SOMETHING WONDERFUL,” which echoes Jobs’ famous belief that technology should enable creativity and elegance rather than complicate it.

Context & significance

The American Innovation program began in 2018, with the aim of recognizing one innovation or innovator from each U.S. state, the District of Columbia, or U.S. territories.

In selecting Jobs as California’s nominee, the US Mint and state officials highlight how his work with Apple Inc. transformed personal technology and popular culture—making a lasting global impact.
